FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the questions engineers ask most.
Which SolidWorks versions are supported?
All models are saved for SolidWorks 2018 and newer, so most current installations open them directly with the feature tree intact. If your team runs an older release, or works in another CAD system, request the STEP export instead — STEP is a neutral format that opens in Solid Edge, Inventor, Fusion 360, NX, Creo and any modern CAD tool. If you need a specific release or an extra format for a particular model, mention it in your inquiry and test the file quality with the free samples first.
What formats do the files ship in?
Each model ships as a bundle: SLDPRT part files, the SLDASM assembly, a STEP exchange file that opens in any CAD system, and a PDF summary of the contents. The SolidWorks files are built as full source models with a clean, renamable feature tree, so you can rename features, change dimensions and rebuild the geometry yourself — rather than editing a frozen import. Keep the STEP file for suppliers, quoting and CNC programming, and work in SLDPRT when the design has to change.
How is delivery handled for large files?
Files are delivered through a secure, signed download link that is valid for a limited time, and every purchase includes a PDF summary of the bundle. Model files are compact compared with full machine assemblies, so an order is normally a single download; for very large assemblies we can arrange a direct transfer instead of a link. Review the PDF summary when your link arrives, and download the SolidWorks and STEP files to local storage before the link expires.
Can I get a refund?
Models are digital goods, so sales are final once the files have been delivered — a downloaded file cannot be returned the way hardware can. Two things remove most of the risk before you buy: download the two free sample models and inspect the feature tree and file quality yourself, and read the licence terms to confirm the model fits your use case. If a purchased file fails to open in a supported SolidWorks version, we fix or replace it within 7 days.
Are the models parametric?
Yes. Every model is built with a fully parametric, renamable feature tree — not an exported dumb solid — so you can re-dimension parts, adjust mates and rebuild the assembly when a mechanism needs a different stroke, reach or load case. This is the main reason to buy source SLDPRT files rather than a downloaded STEP: the STEP tells you the shape, while the feature tree tells you how it was built and lets you change it.
Can you design a custom mechanism for me?
Yes — see Custom Design. The service covers both cases: adapting a model from the library to your dimensions, and modelling a new non-standard mechanism from your requirement, sketch or reference assembly. Deliverables use the same formats as the library — SLDPRT, SLDASM and STEP with a clean, editable feature tree — and two rounds of revisions are included in the scope. Pricing depends on scope and is listed on the Custom Design page.
How fast do you reply to inquiries?
Within one business day, and the reply comes from an engineer rather than a sales queue — usually faster. To get a useful answer in that first reply, include the model or category you are interested in, your SolidWorks version, the format you need, and for custom design work the key dimensions and cycle time. If your question is about a specific file, download the free samples first and tell us what you found.
